About Our Facility

In September 2012, Elmwood Village Charter School moved into its beautiful new location at the historic 40 Days Park. Now, EVCS is set to expand with the opening of a new campus on Hertel Avenue in September 2017.

Days Park Campus

The Main Building

EVCS invested over 5 million dollars to renovate the building, which was originally constructed in 1957. The renovated building amenities include:

  • A playground
  • A full-size gymnasium
  • A modern library and media center
  • A full-size cafeteria
  • Large, bright classrooms
  • Handicap accessibility
  • Updated office spaces
  • Pull-out rooms for special education and ESL instruction
  • Art and music classrooms
  • Wireless computer access in every classroom

The expanded facility will accommodate our expansion up through the 2018-2019 school year, when we expect to reach our full capacity of 450 students.

The EVCS Library & Media Center

Elmwood Village Charter School’s Library and Media Center is staffed five days a week by a certified library and media specialist and a parent volunteer. The center houses:

  • Over 5,500 books, periodicals, and resources
  • 26 Chromebooks
  • A laptop cart
  • An interactive SMART Board

In addition, each classroom has its own classroom library and 1-3 computers for student use. Grades 1-8 have a permanently mounted SMART Board in each classroom, with a portable unit available as well.

Hertel Campus

Opening Fall 2017

The SUNY Trustees voted to approve the application for Elmwood Village Charter School #2 to open for instruction in 2017. Known as “EVCS Hertel,” the school will replicate the programs and philosophies of the EVCS Days Park Campus, one of the highest performing elementary schools in the region.

The Main Building

EVCS acquired the former Cardinal Dougherty High School at 665 Hertel Avenue, between Elmwood and Military. It will undergo a $2.5 million renovation and will open its doors to 150 K–2nd graders in September 2017.

The Principal

EVCS Hertel has selected Ms. Kathy Jamil to serve as Principal of EVCS Hertel. Ms. Jamil is the founder and former head of the Universal School of Buffalo and former principal of Buffalo Public School 18. Ms. Jamil will be working at EVCS Days Park during the 2016–2017 school year to observe its unique programs and culture, and help prepare the new school for its incoming students.
